Windows 10, Microsoft’s new operating system which started its journey in July 2015 has now surpassed 700 million active device threshold. The company’s latest operating system is now running successfully on more than 700 million devices around the globe.

When Microsoft introduced Windows 10 to the world, it announced a target of 1 billion devices to run the latest operating system in the next three years. However, the company could not attain the goal and confirmed that it would need some more time to achieve it.

Six months ago Microsoft had confirmed that the operating system is close to attaining the milestone of running on nearly 700 million devices but later retracted its statement. However, at its Ignite Conference yesterday the company announced that Windows 10 is now running on more than 700 million devices across the globe.

The company expects the number to go up with the next major update Windows 10 October 2018 aka Redstone 5 already finalized. Microsoft is expected to release its next major update to all Windows 10 users on October 2nd.

The adoption of Windows 10 has relatively been slow as compared to the company’s earlier version of the operating system, but with the company’s next major update already finalized and ready for release as early as next week we could see an increase in the user base by the end of this year.

We don’t expect Microsoft to reach the target of 1 billion devices in the next couple of months since generally the adoption of the new operating system is at a slow pace and Windows 10 has taken more time to reach the milestone of 700 million devices than Microsoft expected.

We would be seeing an increase in the user base in the coming months since users would always want to be downloading the latest features and enjoy support for the latest technologies and with Microsoft planning another major update for Spring 2019, the user base is surely expected to increase.
